Intercultural E-learning for Youth Workers in Western Balkans

Supported through the second RYCO Open Call for Project Proposals, co-financed by the United Nations Peacebuilding Fund, the Union for Youth Work in North Macedonia and BalkanIDEA Novi Sad in Serbia implemented the DEEP – Diversity Educational E-Resource Project.

The project, which took place from September 2019 to November 2020 aimed to equip youth in North Macedonia and Serbia with modern and creative educational resources and tools. Moreover, it focused on strengthening the capacities of youth workers in intercultural learning.

One of the project results, the e-course, titled DEEP – Intercultural Learning for Youth Workers was developed by expert teams of the Union for Youth Work and BalkanIDEA Novi Sad. It is now available on the online learning platform of SEEYN – South East European Youth Network in three languages, Macedonian, Albanian and Serbian.

“The e-course is the first opportunity for youth workers from the region to take part in an interactive learning experience on intercultural learning in their own language. Developing an intercultural competence is essential for youth workers to be able to support young people in developing their own skills, which are relevant not only for communicating with young people from the region, but even more in their own local communities,” Ms Dea Zdravkovska, Project Assistant at Union for Youth Work, said.

During the project implementation, the DEEP – Diversity Educational E-Resource Project helped youth in North Macedonia and Serbia explore intercultural learning methods tailored to their needs and preferences. Furthermore, it addressed existing disparities between the level of development and quality of youth work by providing them with an opportunity to work together across borders and support each other in strengthening and developing their youth work skills.

Empowered to also address the lack of diverse educational opportunities for youth workers in intercultural learning in the region and to contribute with new innovative tools, the project organizing partners are now providing interested youth with an online course that can help them develop their youth work competencies.

By joining the e-course, youth workers in the region will be able to learn how to work with youth on diverse and intercultural topics in a more meaningful way. Moreover, they will be better prepared for project-based youth work and will facilitate the empowerment process of other young people in the region, too.

*Please note that for full access to the e-course, you will need to create an account on SEEYN online learning platform.
