Are you passionate about the environment and the well-being of communities? Do you want to raise your voice on climate migration, a pressing issue that impacts millions worldwide, including children and youth? Do you have a personal story of migration or displacement due to climate change? If so, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) invites you to be part of a global conversation by joining the IOM COP29 Youth Delegates on Climate Migration at COP29 in Azerbaijan!
Why COP29 is Crucial for Climate Action
COP29, scheduled for November 2024 in Baku, Azerbaijan, represents a pivotal moment for global climate action. This conference will review the progress of nations’ commitments to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and adapt to climate change. The stakes are high: climate change is already displacing millions of people each year, disproportionately affecting vulnerable populations, including young and marginalized communities. In 2023 alone, over 26 million people were internally displaced due to climate-related factors. Without significant action, climate change could force 216 million people to migrate internally by 2050.
Despite these alarming figures, the impact of climate change on children and youth remains underrepresented in data and policy discussions. This is where your voice and experiences can make a difference.
