This course is for trainers who care for quality youth work in Europe and see a competent youth worker at the heart of it. Learn how to integrate the ETS competence model in competence-based training for youth workers in a systemic and holistic way.
Why this training?
This YOCOMO Training of Trainers, therefore, looks to prepare trainers to implement training activities for youth workers with competence-based. holistic and systemic approaches, in their context.
This training will create opportunities for you to:
- See beyond the individual development of competences of youth workers and approach them in a systemic and holistic way.
- Strengthen the development of youth workers’ attitudes, which are pivotal in youth work.
- Use and apply the ETS Competence Model in youth work development.
- Design and implement competence-based training activities for youth workers.
Based on the positive results from the initial release, the second edition of this training course is designed to enhance the competences of trainers in creating impactful training activities for youth workers.
Content of the training course:
This is a long-term training course combining residential training, online learning, individual coaching, practice and a consolidation seminar.
The training is designed based on three distinct approaches: the systemic approach, the holistic approach, and the competence-based training design approach. You will learn how to effectively apply the ETS Competence Model in the development or youth workers.
In the whole process of this training course, you will explore:
- The concept of competence – what are the parts and how to address them.
- How to get to know the needs of the youth work system?
- Knowing the ETS competence model for youth workers inside-out
- What do we mean by ‘Competence development process’?
- Exploring the importance of attitudes and how to address them in youth worker competence development
- How to support youth workers to be reflective practitioners?
- A systemic approach to competence development
- How to design competence-based training programmes for youth workers?
- What stances are needed from a trainer to work on competence development in a systemic and holistic way?
Timeline:
- Online onboarding meeting – 5 September 2023 10-12:00 CET
- Online learning – information, tasks, reflections (10 hours in total)
- Online seminar – 25-27 September 2023 from 10 to 13:30 CET (12 hours in total)
- One-to-one support process online with one of the trainers
- YOCOMO ToT Residential seminar – 6-12 November 2023 in Lithuania (6.11 – arrival day; 12.11 departure day):
- Coached practice – between November 2023 and April 2024
- Consolidation seminar, residential – 23-25 April 2024 (22.04 arrival day and 26.04 departure day)
Total duration of involvement – 12 days (not including the time for training practice)
Participant profile:
- actively working as a trainer in the field of youth work
- providing training courses for youth work practitioners, working internationally,
- willing to apply the ETS competence model for youth workers to work internationally to their training context,
- interested in improving own practice in competence-based training
- able to work/communicate in English,
- coming from Erasmus+ Youth/European Solidarity Corps Programme and/or Partner countries;
- able to take part in all phases of the training, including the commitment to conduct a training practice.

About YOCOMO
The YOCOMO (YOuth Workers COmpetence MOdel) project consists of a series of learning offers and training activities to support youth workers in reflecting and exploring their practice through the ETS Competence Model for Youth Workers to Work Internationally. YOCOMO Training of trainers aims to spread the findings of the piloted courses from 2018 to 2021 and to have more trainers being able to apply Competence Model in youth worker professional development practice. We count on those trainers to be YOCOMO ambassadors in Europe.
