OCTOBER 19, 11:00-13:00 CET
Topic: Financial literacy
Financial literacy is a core life skill not only for survival but also for self-realisation. These skills gain even more importance in the current context of raping prices, rising inequalities, and economic hardship. Financial literacy ensures that young people make insightful budgeting decisions, choose the right banking and investment products, manage their savings and engage in debts wisely. Financial capability paves the road for self-development, autonomy, and better quality of life. On the other hand, financially illiterate young people are more vulnerable to scams, bad investments, and increasing debt and are at higher risk of poverty.
As youth information providers, we are aware of the positive impact that timely access to quality youth-friendly information can have on young people’s aspirations, autonomy, and access to rights. Organised in the Council of Europe-ERYICA Partnership framework, this webinar aims to understand what financial literacy really means and to gain some insights and knowledge on the current situation of youth financial literacy in Europe. We will touch on the topics that interest young people the most, discuss them with key stakeholders, and reflect on how youth information providers can provide first-hand support. Participants will also listen to inspiring examples of youth information services and good practices from other related sectors.
Of course, youth information services alone are not enough of a solution to all the challenges and needs of young people. Instead, it should be considered a vital component of intersectional cooperation and partnerships with key actors and experts in financial literacy. Our webinar will be an opportunity to identify the main stakeholders in the field and discuss practical ways of cooperating and building partnerships.
