Estonian National Youth Council shares learning moments on engaging different stakeholders to support the lowering of the voting age to 16 years. What have been the obstacles? How to convince decision makers and media to be interested in the youth issues? How to empower young people to speak up and be interested in political life? How do projects support communication and vice a versa? What traps can we avoid?

Making youth voice heard and standing up for youth rights is also the topic where 18 year old Deborah Fakeye. She has been involved with Youth Work Ireland for a number of years. In January 2018 she joined Youth Work Ireland’s National Youth Action Group (NYAG) and become involved in various projects including the 5 Nations Brexit Symposium in Killarney, BIPA (British-Irish Parliamentary Assembly), the Equality Crew and Sex Talk Team. Deborah has represented Youth Work Ireland in national media campaigns including radio chats, an op-Ed in the Irish times and speaking about reforming sex ed at the NCCA consultations. She is a regular guest on Newstalk and also has been involved at a European level with the #GiveAVote campaign spearheaded by EYCA across 13 EU countries. Deborah Fakeye has been working a lot on sex education reform campaign. She’s been engaged in the #HomeToVote movement regarding abortion topic Ireland. In the end of 2019, she was elected as the President for the Youth Work Ireland and is now actively shaping Irish youth work.
